THE WORK FOR OUR SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS

I am dedicated to providing an academically challenging, yet nurturing environment for students.
My initial focus when I ran in 2020 was to enhance our mental health support, increase safety in our schools, offer a wider variety of academic and career pathways, and increase parent knowledge and support for IEP's.
Since 2019, we have tripled our mental health support for our students, adding 24 counselors, psychologists, social workers, and interns.  Our offerings for Career Technical Education and Vocational Pathways have grown significantly and are a highlight of the state.  We have had our culinary program from both of our comprehensive high schools reach number 1 in the state in the last 2 years. More fencing has been installed in our schools and we have support from School Resource Officers from LVPD and the LA County Sheriff at our sites, we well as more crossing guards.  We have pushed for and received academic intervention support personnel which helped us combat the learning loss from COVID-19 shutdowns, and we have kept these interventionists on staff to continue to increase our academic tiered supports for all students.  Our arts programs are becoming nationally recognized with our amazing choirs, drama departments, and fine arts.  Parent information for IEP's have been offered in person, as well as detailed on our website.  I am very proud to say that I have delivered on every single one of my initial campaign promises.
Let me continue to work to bring best practices and sound judgement to our upcoming issues we will be facing with difficult funding from the state.  We need to keep our district in that top tier academically, continue our mental health support, ensure our students safety, and continue to expand our career pathways & arts.  On top of this, we will also now need to turn to ensuring our facilities are updated, that our students achieve their own success after graduation, and that they are succeeding academically, socially, and emotionally.
